Maine Developmental Disabilities Council

Self-Advocacy and Self-Determination

“Nothing About Us Without Us” is the rallying cry of the disability rights movement, and the Maine Developmental Disabilities Council believes that the best people to judge the merits of a system are those that live within it. The voices of people with developmental disabilities should be paramount in any discussions about their lives and the services that support them. At MDDC, our work is led by the voices of self-advocates and family members, and we understand that an important part of that work includes giving more people with developmental disabilities the tools to advocate for themselves.
