Welcome to the Maine Developmental Disabilities Council. The Council is a partnership of people with developmental disabilities, family members, and state and local agencies and organizations. We are committed to creating a Maine in which all people are valued and respected because we believe communities are stronger when everyone is included. To do this, we create and support policy advocacy for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Please check out our history and the variety of resources on our site. Our latest project, Out of the Shadows, can be accessed through the link below. Out of the Shadows is the story of mental institution in our state and it includes interviews with residents now living in the community.
New Grant Opportunities
The Maine Developmental Disabilities Council is currently soliciting grant applications for two grants. The first grant is a Planning Grant(s) to Increase Capacity to Support Self-Direction which aims to increase the capacity of Maine’s developmental service system to provide support brokerage to adults using self-directed services. The second grant is Protecting Rights, Promoting Choices, which will fund agencies or individuals to increase access to resources for individuals with developmental disabilities.
